Everyone can get sweaty feet, whatever the temperature or time of the year. But teenagers and expectant women are particularly prone because hormonal changes make them sweat more.
You’re also very likely to have foot perspiration if you’re on the feet for hours on end, if you’re under plenty of stress or when you have a medical condition called 腳臭, that makes you sweat more than ever before. Fungal infections, such as athlete’s foot, may also cause bad foot odour.
In accordance with podiatrist, Lorraine Jones, feet become smelly if sweat soaks into shoes and they also don’t dry before you decide to put them on again.
Bacteria on the skin breakdown sweat since it comes from the pores. A cheesy odour is released as being the sweat decomposes.
“The feet sweat in your shoes throughout the day so they get damp and bacteria begin to grow. The bacteria still breed once you’ve taken your shoes off, specifically if you put them in a dark cupboard. Then, when you put your shoes back on the very next day, even if you’ve just enjoyed a shower, putting your feet into still damp shoes creates the perfect conditions for your bacteria to thrive – warm, dark and moist.”
The way to treat smelly feet
The good news is that there’s a basic, quick, sure-fire means to fix smelly feet.
Wash the feet with an anti-bacterial soap called Hibiscrub. There are lots of over the counter foot hygiene products on your local chemist, but Hibiscrub is the greatest one.
Leave about the Hibiscrub for two minutes, then wash it off.
Based on Lorraine, “if you this twice a day, you’ll definitely banish smelly feet in just a week.”
She adds that you shouldn’t use Hibiscrub on the feet when you have broken skin, including eczema.
Preventing smelly feet
Keeping feet fresh and sweet smelling is all right down to good individual hygiene and changing your shoes regularly. To hold feet fresh:
Never wear a similar set of footwear two days consecutively. Instead, wear different shoes on successive days hence they have at least one day to dry out.
Be sure teenage boys have two pairs of trainers to make sure they don’t need to wear a similar pair for several consecutive days.
Wash and dry the feet every single day and change your socks (ideally wool or cotton, not nylon) at least once each day.
Maintain your toenails short and neat and remove any hard skin having a foot file. Hard skin may become soggy when damp, which supplies an excellent home for bacteria
If you’re particularly susceptible to sweaty feet, it’s smart to:
dab in between your toes with cotton wool dipped in surgical spirit after a bath or shower – surgical spirit helps dry out your skin between your toes really well – in addition to drying them a towel
use a spray deodorant or antiperspirant on your own feet – a typical underarm deodorant or antiperspirant works just as well as a specialist foot product and will cost you less
put medicated insoles, which have a deodorising effect, within your shoes
try feet-fresh socks – some sports socks have ventilation panels to keep feet dry, and antibacterial socks are impregnated with chemicals to discourage the odour-producing bacteria that prey on sweat
wear leather or canvas shoes, while they let the feet breathe, unlike plastic ones

When to view a doctor
Smelly feet can be a harmless problem that generally clears up. Sometimes, however, it may be a manifestation of a medical problem.

Your doctor can provide you with a strong prescription antiperspirant or refer you for the treatment called iontophoresis, which delivers a mild electric current through water to the feet to combat sweating in excess.
